Harry N. Alsman, Sr., 85, of LeClaire, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on August 1, 2014. Funeral services will be held at the Runge Mortuary on Monday, August 4, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Harry was united in marriage to Joan Phipps on January 27, 1953, in Davenport. She died on June 11, 2003. Mr. Alsman later married Carol Rotz on September 6, 2013. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a foreman and retired from Farmall. Harry later worked for River Cruises in LeClaire, and was known as “Captain Harry.”
Harry previously operated Holiday Crafts & More from his home with his late wife. He was a self-taught harmonica player, loved to travel, and especially enjoyed taking road trips. Harry had a great sense of humor, which he passed on to all his kids. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his children, Harry N. Alsman, Jr., Cathy (Rick) Rogers, Tracy Rector, Sue (Kyle) Nichols, Melissa (Russ) Bailey, and Mary Maine (Rod Treimer); 15 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
