Helen E Meyers

Helen E. Meyers, 90, of Bettendorf, formerly of Joliet, passed away, Tuesday, March 2, 2011 at Riverview Manor in Pleasant Valley, IA. Following cremation, a private family service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Meyers was born December 20, 1920 in Lockport, IL, the daughter of John and May (Moody) Stefanech. She graduated from Lockport Township High School in 1938 and St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Joliet, IL in August 1942.

She married A. Philip Fantozzi in 1942. In 1951 she married Edward P. Meyers, Sr. He preceded her in death in 1990.

In 1975 she retired as a pediatric nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She moved to Bettendorf 2 ½ years ago to be near her daughter and grandson and family.

Her hobbies included television viewing, especially watching political and informational programs. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, were the main focus of her life.

Survivors include her children: Karen Lemke in California, Janice Melvin and special friend, Jon Flower of Bettendorf, and Edward (Peggy) Meyers, Jr. of New Lenox, IL; grandchildren: Steve (Audra) Lemke in California, Brian (Allison) Melvin of LeClaire, IA, Kristie (Nestor) Escalera in Florida, and Amy (Eric) Jurgens in Illinois; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Seiler of Lockport, IL.
