

Irving C. Schoenthal, 89, of Davenport, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Genesis East Medical Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 10:00 am at Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Runge Mortuary. Burial with military honors will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or to the church.

Irving was born September 23, 1921 in Sac City, IA; the son of Emil and Mary (Bunker) Schoenthal. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Abel on April 6, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII, where he was stationed in the Philippines performing fire and rescue missions.
Irving worked at the Arsenal for twenty-six years as an electrician; he retired in 1972 and then worked for ten years for Learner’s Chrysler in Rock Island. He was a lifetime member of the Davenport American Legion Post #26, 40/8 and the Rock Island V.F.W. He also had memberships in the following: American/Schleswig Holstein Heritage Society, German American National Congress and NARFE. He volunteered for the Davenport Good Samaritan Nursing Home and for WQPT.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy, Davenport, children: Linda (Larry) Kurtenbach, Sherrard, IL; Karen (Stephen) Rohm, Punta Gorda, FL; Gareth (Cathy) Schoenthal, Great Falls, MT; Deborah (Burl) Armstrong, Camdenton, MO and Janet (Kim) Johnson, Blue Grass, IA; ten grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Florence Schoenthal, Storm Lake, IA. His parents, two brothers, one sister and grandsons: Matthew and Peter preceded him in death.
