Jack was my father-in-law.  He always treated like family and had a great sense of humor.  He loved fishing and sharpening his knives! He enjoyed teasing people and getting them to laugh.  He liked to push things to the limit sometimes.  He would invite you  to dinner and if you didn't sit down and eat with him he would say "Your going to make me mean!"
He was in a nursing home for several years and he always just wanted to come home.  He refused to conform to a nursing home
atmosphere. He need a lot of attention and he just was not able to be cared for at his house.  The last time I visited him, the end of February,  I could tell he seemed more at peace and he just getting more tired as the days went on.  We had a nice conversation and I told him that I loved him and gave him a big hug.  My daughter Stephanie was very close with him but lives an hour away, but always made a point to stop and visit him when she was in Davenport when she could.  She was leaving to board a plane to Oregon when she heard the news.  It was very hard on her.  He was a very influential person in her life.  I will remember Jack's mischievous  grin when he was up to something.   He always stopped by the house to have a Pepsi and eat popcorn with me and chat it up.  Some of the things that would come out of his mouth made me shake my head and laugh.  Some days he could drive you crazy.  He didn't like to be told what to do.  He did things on his own terms. He told Stephanie he was going to keep my dad company when he got to heaven.  What a time that would be.  Well Jack,  I will think of you often.  R.I.P.
