Janet Lee Parry passed away February 16, 2025 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born on December 13, 1934 in Valparaiso, Indiana to George Randolph Parry and Henrietta Corrine (Gilliland, Robinson) Parry.
She grew up in Valparaiso next to the family's Royal Blue Grocery Store. She learned the value of hard work in the family business and that served her and her family well. She enjoyed a special childhood with her stock horse, Johnny, and Patricia Anne, her shepherd mix dog,
Even though she was an only child, her half brothers passing in childhood, her life was full with Parry cousins. They enjoyed playing at the family cottage on the Tippecanoe river. The cottage in Leiters Ford, Indiana was a gathering place for her and the family for decades. She created many memories there. Later in life she traveled the world. Europe, South America, Asia and trips to Mexico allowed her to see the world's greatest sights, but she always loved the cottage.
She played the piccolo in the Valparaiso High School band and had a life-long love of music and the performing arts. She was a Symphony member, and enjoyed plays and musicals. As a teenager she would travel to Chicago to see the latest Broadway shows.
After high school graduation, she went to Indiana University and became a dental hygienist. She worked for decades for Dr. JIm Cannon and his sons. She enjoyed her work with children and cleaned the teeth of many young people over the years.
She was married to Herman Tarnow after graduating from Dental School and they had three boys: Matt, Mark and Tom. They moved from South Bend, Indiana to Davenport, Iowa in 1970. Janet and Herman divorced in 1974. She never remarried.
She had a full life of family and friends. She was a loving and compassionate mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children: Matt (Kesha) Tarnow, Mark (Kerri) Tarnow, and Tom (Megan) Tarnow; grandchildren Andrew, Adam, Dan, Joe, Sierra, Keefe, Shea, and Caden; great grandchildren Patterson, Emilia, Llewynn, Milo, Hugo, and Rhedyn.
