Janice Oralee Stender

Janice O. Stender, 78, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. She married Robert J. Stender on February 16, 1957 in Davenport and was a St. Ambrose Division of Nursing graduate in 1956. She worked fifty years in nursing, the last 39 years in psychiatric nursing at Pine Knoll.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; son, Bruce and his wife, Gail, of Davenport; daughter, Jane Stender, of Rochester, MN; two grandsons, Jacob Stender and John Stender; brother, Paul Strathman, of Mason City, IA; sister, Donna Larsen, of Waynesboro, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice cherished her weekly lunch with Rosie and monthly lunch with “the girls”.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mignon Drummond.
