Jean Elizabeth Langtimm

Jean Elizabeth Steve Langtimm, 77, of Bettendorf died August 26, 2010 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. A celebration of her life will be held on at 10:00 AM Monday, August 30 at Grandview Methodist Church in Dubuque, IA. There will also be a memorial service held 5:30PM Saturday (9/4) at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. Jean Elizabeth was born July 27, 1933, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of George R. and Lillian E. (Haigh) Kennedy. On December 2, 1950 Jean married Alan Steve (deceased). On July 15, 1972, she married Duane H. Langtimm.

Jean was an active member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Davenport, IA, where she taught Sunday School. She volunteered with Susan Langtimm’s (daughter-in-law) first grade class at Riverdale Heights for 10 years. Jean taught Special Education Classes at A.R.C. in Dubuque, IA, and “English as a Second Language” with her husband, Duane, for ten years in Mission, Texas where they spent their winter months. She enjoyed bowling and golf, and spent many summers camping with friends and family each summer at Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wisconsin. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her husband, Duane Langtimm; her children Alan Steve (Mary), of Durange, IA, Joan Marie Steve, of Dubuque, IA, Tim Steve (Wanda), of Durango, IA,

Julie Bonney (Everett), LeClaire, IA, Susan Hansel (Jeff) Elkport, IA, Tom Steve, Durango, IA; her step children, Catherine Ann Langtimm (Ken Prestwich), North Brookfield, Massachusetts, David Langtimm (Susan), Betttendorf, IA, Kenneth Langtimm (Cindy), Castle Rock, Colorado, Carol Langtimm (Frank Sedlack), Iron Ridge, WI; and 12 grandchildren, Nick, Bo, Tony, Matt, Tim, Emily, Kelly, Lindsey, Brooke, Katie, Ryan and Jesse. She is also survived by her sister, Joan (Terry) Vosberg, Hazel Green, WI; five brothers, Jack Maylou (Moomie) Kennedy, Bernard, IA, Jerry (Joyce) Kennedy, Dubuque, IA, Miton “Sonny” (Rayetta) Gassman, Jr, all of Dubuque, and Terrance (Tammie) Gassman, East Dubuque, IL; and sister-in-law, Lavonne Kennedy, Dubuque, IA.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Milton “Skeets” Gassman; two brothers, Robert and George Kennedy; and a sister, Juanita Oswald.
