John was born the son of John W. and Erma (Sprague) Kundel on February 19, 1948 in Davenport, IA. He was united in marriage to Sharon Strohbehn on July 22, 1967 in Davenport. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He farmed his family farm for many years.
John had a passion for farming his land and was a loving, giving, hardworking man. He enjoyed playing bags, bowling, skiing, and above all, golfing. He was known to be the life of the party and would talk with anyone. John cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was an active member of the Walcott American Legion, Scott County Cattleman’s Association and ASCS County Committee.
Those celebrating his life are his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon; children, Kelly (John) Behrens, Kevin (Greta) Kundel and Kathy (Eric) Long; sisters: Vi Westphal, Shirley (Jim) Schneckloth, Judy (Glen) Swanson and Karen (Gary) Bein; grandchildren: Kelsea (Jake) Arthur, Alisa Behrens (fiancé, Carter Thompson), John Karl Behrens, Eric Long, Brenna Kundel, Emily Kundel, Shawn Kundel and Kyle Kundel; and expected first great granddaughter, Kennedy Jo Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Don Westphal.
