John Elzie Mattson

John Elzie Mattson, 75, of Davenport, Iowa formerly of Rockford, IL, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Davenport. Per his request, cremation rites will be provided. Private graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

John was born October 25, 1949, in Moline, IL to Carl and Marie (Perkins) Mattson. He was united in marriage to Deborah Hass on July 8, 1972, in Lincoln Park, Rock Island, IL.

He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked at Cummins Illinois Engine Sales and Service and after was self-employed for Trans Am Truck and Trailer.

John was a devoted, generous and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved “Da Bears,” Chicago White Sox and the Northwestern Wildcats. He enjoyed music, especially the blues and played guitar in his church. He was known for his roaring campfires, shooting off fireworks and having himself a cold beer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Deborah, daughter, Rebecca (Donovan) Buchanan, Davenport and their children: Justin, Colin and Stella, brothers: Darrell (Connie) Mattson, IL and Carl (Adelaide) Mattson, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
