

Funeral services for Lauren K. “Bumps” Willert, 80, of Davenport, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at the Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction, IA. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Mr. Willert died on Sunday, February 14, 2016 in Daytona, FL while doing what he loved most, visiting friends and waiting for the Daytona 500.Lauren Keith Willert was born on September 12, 1935 in Toronto, IA, the son of Lyle and Mildred (Fritz) Willert. After graduating from Tipton High School he married Sandra Woode on March 23, 1957 in Tipton. He also joined the Joie Chitwood Auto Daredevils. His 28 year career of being with Joie Chitwood took him all over the world, ending up in Thailand where he was the man behind the wheel in the river jump scene for the James Bond movie “The Man With The Golden Gun”. After his stunt career he took up being a union truck driver for 25 years with TNT Holland lines until his retirement.“Bumps” enjoyed playing Euchre, playing golf, and dirt track racing where his two sons had race cars. He was an avid Hawkeye, Nascar, and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan. He enjoyed hosting BBQ’s and all holidays for his family. He was very caring for people in general and had a real desire to help them anyway he could. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Surviving members of the family include – a Daughter: Kristi (Steve) Stafford of Tipton; 2 Sons: Jon “Jake” (Teri) Willert and Jim Willert both of Davenport; a Sister: Karen Sayre of Cedar Rapids, IA; a Brother Robert Willert of Iowa City, IA; a Sister-in-Law: Julie Willert of Cedar Falls, IA; 9 Grandchildren; Cody Stafford of West Branch, IA, Cory Stafford of Cedar Valley, IA, Cole Stafford of Tipton, IA, Lindsey Willert of Milan, IL, Jenna Willert of Waukee, IA, Carly Willert of Davenport, IA, Joe Batey of Davenport, IA, Chelsea Gless of Princeton, IA, Kayleigh Easter of Bettendorf, IA, 3 Great-Grandchildren; Kaleb Willert, Benjamin Gless and Maci Clark.He was preceded in death by – his parents, a sister Wanda, a brother Lyle Jr. and his niece Ann.Memorials may be made to the family.
