We have know and loved Larry all our lives.

We have know Larry since we moved next door to Nancy and him, on Colony Drive, Davenport, Iowa in the summer of 1977.   That fall our daughter, Amy, was born on his birthday.  Often Linda and Nancy liked celebrating their November birthdays together too.
There are so many stories to tell.  We remember seeing the scars on his knees and him telling us that if he had it to do over he would have been in band and chorus instead of playing football (where he excelled playing semi-pro ball).
He and Nancy became part of our church family and Larry even sang next to Steve in the church choir.  Sometimes he would sing a solo and he always put his whole heart and soul into it. 
After retirement he and Nancy loved spending winters in Texas, and  we even enjoyed visiting them there.
Larry was so very tenderhearted.  We remember him taking Nancy to dialysis 3 times a week and planning vacations so that they would be in a town on those days where she could be helped.    He always had the nurses laughing and always remembered their names and even  the details of their lives.  
Larry's weak spot was children.  He loved them and they loved him.  Our children, Amy and John, always knew he was interested in them and their activities.
We could go on and on but all those who knew him had stories to tell.  He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and even strangers.

Larry played in our Euchre tournaments at Luther Manor. One time I called him out on an incorrect play. He said, “ My wife used to tell me that too” and he laughed. I replied, “You should have listened to her. She was right.”  He laughed harder. He will be missed. 

I knew Larry through our Sippi Sam camping club, and enjoyed his company on many camping weekends and good Sam rallys. My sympathy to all his family. And I shared his love of music too.

Larry was one of a kind, always had a story and a great attitude. He so enjoyed reminiscing about his days in sports, the family and his devotion to Nancy.  Our last conversation was about wanting to visit the great grand babies  when he could travel safely during COVID.  Family was everything to him and he made our circle of cousins better with his presence at gatherings. St. Peter is waiting for you. Larry, with Nancy holding the choir robe for you.  May your family find peace and comfort in their memories.

Larry also leaves 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy; brother Gary Heitman; and his son, Gary “Mike” Michael Heitman.
