Lawrence (“Larry”) Bernard Weyer, 85, of Mission, Texas, and previously of Staples, Minnesota, passed away on May 25, 2025, in Long Grove, Iowa, surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Staples. Visitation will precede the funeral at the church at 10:00 a.m., and a luncheon will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Larry was born on July 18, 1939, in Olivia, Minnesota, the youngest of eight children of Edward and Mary (Ahrendt) Weyer. He married the love of his life, Sharon Koll, on November 25, 1961, in Olivia.
Larry was in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1975, serving primarily on submarines, and achieved the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-8). After retiring from the Navy, the family moved to Staples, where Larry farmed and worked as the Wadena County Veteran Service officer from 1979 to 1991. Larry and Sharon then traveled full-time in their fifth wheel trailer before settling in Mission.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Sharon, of 63 years; his sons, Michael (Joy) of Staples, and Steven of Mission; his daughters, Ellen (Jeffrey) Jones of The Colony, Texas, Janis (Chuck) Fagin of Deer River, Minnesota and Brenda (Stephen) Sorensen of Long Grove, Iowa; his grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Weyer, Megan (Alex) Wohl, Tera (Jesse) Kohn, Renee Paskewitz, Cameron Jones, Kelsey Jones, Erin (Adrian) Pop, Callum Fagin, David Sorensen and Rachel Sorensen; his great-grandchildren, Grace, Ava and Ruby Paskewitz, Abigail and Ian Weyer and Isaiah Wohl; and his sisters, Elaine Mahoney, Lorraine Harrell and Mary Ann Woelfel.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Nicholas, Francis, Louis and James; and his infant daughter, Eileen Weyer.
