Lester C. Wallace

Lester C. Wallace, 87, of Bettendorf, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Trinity West in Rock Island, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, January 30, 2012 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm Sunday at the mortuary. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or the Alzheimers Association. He was born January 18, 1925 in Mansfield, Missouri, the son of Albert J. and Susie J. (Pope) Wallace. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1946, having served on the USS Randall, and married Genevieve Fitzgerald in Ava, Missouri in 1949.

Mr. Wallace moved to Bettendorf to work at the J.I. Case plant in 1947, retiring from there in 1987.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bettendorf.

Survivors include his wife Genevieve, children and spouses: Brenda and Chris Gingry, Joe and Claudia Wallace, and Lisa and Tracy Van Damme; fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Robin Wallace.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Ron.
