

DAVENPORT — Funeral services for Edgar B. Ihlefeld, 94, and Lois I. Ihlefeld, 88, both of Davenport, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial with military honors will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. After 64 wonderful years of marriage, Mr. Ihlefeld died on Sunday morning, Feb. 8, at Wilton (Iowa) Retirement Home, and Mrs. Ihlefeld died within the hour at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.Edgar Benno Ihlefeld was born on May 20, 1920, in rural Scott County, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Ella (Schmidt) Ihlefeld. Lois Irene Chrystal was born on May 19, 1926, in Ryan, Iowa, the daughter of John and Hazel (Hamblin) Chrystal. Ed and Lois were introduced by mutual friends at church, and after courting for several years were married on May 27, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. In earlier years, Lois worked as a buyer at the former M.L. Parker Company in Davenport, and after the birth of their daughter, JoAnn, was a stay-at-home mom. Edgar was self-employed as a farmer in Scott County his entire life.During WWII, Ed served as a Staff Sergeant in both Normandy and the Egyptian Campaigns as Medical Aid man, where he earned three Bronze Stars. He was a longtime member of the Walcott American Legion Post 548, where he served as the “November” volunteer bartender for many years. He also served as a president and board member of the Walcott Elevator as well as being a member of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Soy Bean Growers Association. He was a former member of the Davenport Moose, was active in the 3rd Armored Division Reunions, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a recent participant of the Quad-Cities Honor Flight.In earlier years, Lois served as the pianist at the Golden Congregational Church in Ryan and locally was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. She was a former member of the Women of the Moose and had served a number of years as a Campfire Girls troupe leader. Most of all, she enjoyed farming beside Ed and being a mom and grandma.Surviving members of the family include a daughter: JoAnn (Doug) Scovil, Davenport; two grandchildren: Jessica (Zach) Bangert, Davenport, and Chris Scovil, Chicago; Lois’ sister: Margaret Elf, Jamestown, N.Y.; and Ed’s sister: Vera Sessler, Wilton.Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Erna; and two brothers: Bruno and Albert.Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers: Harold, Harlan and Mike.Memorials may be made to the Golden Congregational Church in Ryan or to the Quad-Cities Honor Flight.
