Maitland Robert McElroy, 81, of Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the V.A. Medical Center in Iowa City. Interment will be Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Rock Island National Cemetery with full military honors arranged by his loving sister, Waneita F. Watson. Also there to honor him will be Waneita’s daughter, (Air Force) Kimberly D. Lindholm and her husband (Air Force) Greg and their children, James and Rachael.
Maitland was born April 25, 1935; the son of Ronald F. and Hazel E. McElroy. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and later enlisted in the U.S. Army.
He came from a family of seven siblings: (Marines) Ronald J. McElroy (Genny, dec.), Littleton, CO; (Marines) Harold W. McElroy, (dec.) and his surviving wife, Helen, Urbana, IA; (Career Air Force) Hugh F. McElroy, Wichita Falls, TX; Dawn Sylvan, Colorado Springs, CO; (Navy, several reenlistments, later Army) Maitland R. McElroy, (dec.);
Waneita Watson (Richard, dec.), Park View, IA and (Army) John L. McElroy, (Gloria, dec.), Topeka, KS.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold W. McElroy.
