Maria Elena Camarena Segura

A private family Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 4, 2025, in the chapel at the Kahl Home. Cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kahl Home Memory Unit. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Maria was born on November 6, 1936, in Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Jose and Refugio (Ramirez) Camarena. She was united in marriage to Gilberto Segura on October 26, 1952, in Vista Hermosa, Mexico. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Maria was a tailor/seamstress for many years. She loved making beautiful things for everyone she loved. Maria also enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and had a green thumb. Before Gilberto’s passing, they loved dancing together. She enjoyed traveling. She and Gilberto traveled everywhere, including family visits to Europe and Hawaii. They especially enjoyed visiting family in Mexico. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all, especially her special blessings.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Leonardo Gilberto Segura, Oxford, IA, Maria Felicitas Walker, Bettendorf, Maria Elena (Don) Hahn, Davenport, Blanca (James) Upton, Rock Island, Juan Antonio “Johnny” (Sandra) Segura, Detroit, MI, Rosa Maria (Jeff Jordan) Segura, Davenport, Linda Alicia Segura, Hampton VA, and Laura Lee (Jon) Hansen, Daytona Beach, FL; 24 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Tencia Camarena.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Refugio; her husband Gilberto; brothers, Jesse, Adolfo, Juan, Manuel; her comadres; grandson, David Gilbert Hansen and son-in-law, Harry Willis Walker Jr..
