

Marie G. Townsend, 80, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness at her home. Funeral services will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 AM with the Order of the Eastern Star Service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Marie was born May 29, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Vern and Hazel (Shreve) Smith. She married Howard Townsend on March 15, 1952 in Davenport.
She was a production controller and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church; two Order of the Eastern Star, Trinity Chapter and Silver Creek, LeClaire; Daughters of the Nile; The Social Order of the Beauceant; the Mohassan Caldron; and past Grand Royal Matron of the Order of the Amaranth.
Marie was devoted to her family. She loved animals, especially elephants and Clydesdale horses. She was multi-talented and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, ceramics, and being a seamstress.
Those left to honor her memory are her loving husband of 59 years, Howard; children, Rhonda Townsend, Davenport, and Timothy, (Julie) Townsend, Davenport; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sisters, Carol F. Holmes and Roberta Stearns, both of Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Jeanne Herman ; sons, Lee Mounsey and Terry Townsend; brother Robert Smith; grandchildren, Dena Hakes, Michael Gerischer, Christie Lynne and Brandy Leigh Townsend,
