

Marlin A. Cook, 93, of Davenport, peacefully passed away on January 29, 2021 after a short illness following a heart attack. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 3, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church located at 109 E 14th Street, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 9:15 a.m. until time of service. Family, friends, and acquaintances are welcome to attend in honor of Mr. Cook. He was born June 15, 1927 in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Fred and Ethel (Ham) Cook. He was an Eagle Scout. After graduating from Oelwein High School, Marlin went to Cornell College and Iowa State University. He served in the Army Air Corps as a military transport aircraft mechanic. In 2013, he traveled to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight.
On June 3, 1950, Marlin married the love of his life, Vivian M. Heinig of Chicago, IL. They were blessed to be together for over 65 years.
Marlin was employed by Titus Manufacturing in Waterloo and then worked for Riekes Equipment Company in Davenport for the next 34 years. He had a way with people and fostered meaningful relationships with his customers.
Marlin was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird-watching, traveling, biking, and wildlife photography. He and Vivian made many fishing trips to Ghost River and other camps throughout Ontario, Canada to land the big ones! He volunteered for the American Cancer Society and HOME in his retirement years. Playing bridge was also a favorite past time.
Marlin was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, an Iowa Hawkeye fan, a dog lover and a Dixieland Jazz enthusiast. He was a gifted storyteller. Marlin was well-loved by his family and many close friends. He had a heart of service, a great sense of humor and an engaging personality.
Marlin is survived by three children: Susan (Steve) Lemon of Dubuque, IA, Russell (Vickie) Cook of Grand Junction, CO and Kathy (Brad) Colton of Marion, IA; eight grandchildren: Paul (Alexa) Lemon, Joseph Lemon, Daniel (Jessica) Lemon, Rachel Lemon, Matthew (Megan) Cook, Robert (Jenny) Cook, Ryan (Jen) Cook, Tim (Kirsten) Colton; ten great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew: Gayle (Mike) Colehour and Doug (Theresa) Andrus.
Marlin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivian; his sister, Darlene (Bud) Andrus; infant daughter, Sandra; granddaughter, Hannah Colton; and a niece and nephew, Nancy Andrus and Donn Andrus.
