Martha Jane Bergthold

Funeral service will be 11:30 AM, Monday, November 7, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:15 – 11:15 AM, prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Martha was born on March 13, 1921 in Aransas Pass, Texas to Earl and Fannie (Merriner) Gilbert. She married Vincent Bergthold in 1941 in Corpus Christi, TX and they were happily married for 53 years.

Martha was very active in her church and evangelizing people for the Lord. She enjoyed studying the Bible, sewing, writing letters, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her loving, gentle spirit and her scrumptious apple pies.

Survivors include a daughter, Chalah Chavaneau-Ellis (Michael), Austin, TX; sons, Vincent Jr. (Pamela), Plainfield, IL; Jerry, Richmond, VA; and Thomas (Lisa), Plainfield, IL; sister, Marjorie, Houston, TX; 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent, sons, Richard and Paul, and granddaughters Kimberly and Juli.
