Martha C. Zabel

Martha C. Zabel, 93, Bettendorf, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2016 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Martha was born on December 17, 1922 in Joy, IL, the daughter of Frank and Nellie (Ramsey) Lightner. She was united in marriage to Lester Zabel October 13, 1946 in Davenport, IA. He preceded her in death in 1992. Her greatest joy was her family. She had pictures and treasures placed all over her house that were given to her by family and friends. She loved playing games, doing crafts, sewing, traveling to California and Michigan, attending any special event that her family was involved in. She was the best Mom, Mother-in-law and Gramma ever!

Martha is survived by her children, Lew (Cathy) Zabel, Bettendorf, Ken (Leesa) Zabel, Simi Valley, CA, Rhonda (Bob) Malito, Davenport, Ted (Diane) Zabel, Bettendorf; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and brother, Gene Lightner, Panarama Park.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Iva Bell Hopkins and Frances Riepe.
