

Marvin R. Codling, 64, of Bettendorf, passed away, Monday, December 15, 2014, at Bettendorf Health Care. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday, December 19 at the mortuary from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com. Marvin was born June 30, 1950, Davenport, the son of Phillip Codling and Dorothy Codling Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Debra McDonough on April 24, 1976, in Iowa; she preceded him in death on August 1, 2005. He later married JoLynn Lenard Codling in Davenport, Iowa, on June 21, 2010. Marvin worked for Williams Marine in Buffalo, Iowa, for 17 years. He later worked for ARTCO/ADM in Clinton, Iowa, for 26 years, and was a tow boat captain. He was a great fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved to gamble and play poker with friends. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed collecting eagles. His favorite place to go for entertainment was to Gulfport, Mississippi. Survivors include his wife, JoLynn; children, T.R. and Stephanie Codling, Davenport; Ashley Codling and Chris Sparks, Bettendorf; Gidget and Jeff Bregman, Bettendorf; Randy and Melissa Gomez, Bettendorf; Tom and Majellen Pitcher, Texas; and Bridget and Charles Dodd, Bettendorf; 28 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and by his siblings Tom and Judy Codling, Davenport; Dave and Sue Codling, Tennessee; and Alan and Nancy Codling, Nebraska; and his mother, Dorothy Codling Smith. Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Phillip J. Codling.
