Michael J. Sherwood

Michael J. Sherwood 72, of Davenport, Iowa passed away in Davenport, surrounded by his loving family on June 13, 2025. Per his request, cremation rites will be provided. A celebration of life will be Friday, June 20, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Runge Mortuary and Crematory Davenport, Iowa

Mike was born on January 5, 1953, in Palo Alto, CA. He was the son of Ronald Sherwood and Patricia (English) Fischer. He graduated from Bella Vista High School (CA) in 1971.

He was united in marriage to Gale Schamp on May 29, 1978, in Reno, NV. He was a painter in California and then after moving to the area, he worked for his son who owns Sherwood Painting Company, until retiring in 2011.

In earlier years, Michael played baseball and was recruited to play Triple A ball for the Boston Red Sox and later became a coach. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed his “movie dates,” especially at Christmas time, had a great sense of humor which was not always appreciated, but, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gale, daughter, Deanna Sherwood and her fiancé, Jim Bingham of Marion, IA; sons: Derek (Mindi) Sherwood, Davenport and Michael B. Sherwood, Kansas 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brother Gary of the Quad Cities and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, stepparents, 3 sisters and mother-in-law, Helen Schamp preceded him in death.
