Mildred Catherine Greer

Mildred Catherine Greer, 101, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1pm in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Mrs. Greer was born March 23, 1910 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Homer Stephen and Florence Regina (Light) Hasting. She married Elmer Swope, (Sr.) on October 16, 1926. She later married Charles E. Greer on May 23, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1984.

She was formerly employed as a cook and manager at Rockingham Drug Store and was a member of Word of Faith Tabernacle in Davenport. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include children: Van (Alberta) Swope, Charles Swope, Robert Swope, Jack (Karen) Greer, all of Davenport, and Ada (John) Streit of Naples, Florida; 16 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and 22 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Elmer Swope, Jr., daughter-in-law Grace Swope, and three sisters: Helen, Frances, and Cuba.
