Pete was born in Rock Island on June 18, 1962, the son of Donald and Helen (Hantz) Smith. He graduated from Moline High School. He worked as a manager for Kwik Shop and went on to become an assistant manager for 11 years at Johnson Oil (BP) on Northwest Boulevard.
He married Terri Pyrtle on August 29, 2008, in Moline. He and his family were proud that he achieved his Eagle Scout honor. He loved watching football, especially the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs. Pete liked listening to vintage rock music along with watching John Wayne movies. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Pete was a devoted husband, stepfather, son, brother and uncle.
Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Terri, stepson, Austin (Robin Asay) Pyrtle, Bettendorf; mother, Helen Smith, Moline; siblings: Elizabeth (Mike) Arnold, Sherrard, IL and LeeAnn Dobereiner, Rock Island, nieces and nephews: Christopher (Kelly), Helen Theresa and Ann Marie Dobereiner, Avery (Lilly) Krahl, Brayden Krahl, Jacob (Ashley) Hamilton, Kellie Hamilton, Terri’s parents, David (Pat) Fifer, Brookfield, MO, brothers-in-law, David (Angie) Hamilton, Meadville, MO and Steve (Amy) Fifer, Pleasant Hill, MO, several great nieces and nephews and his beloved grand-dog, Kora. His father, Donald, nephew, PFC Adam Dobereiner and grandparents, Herbert (Ida) Smith and Pete (Leota) Hantz preceded him in death.
