Rita was born February 25, 1944, to William and Hilda (Hawthorne) Whipka in Davenport, IA. After attending Davenport High School, she married Frank Veit in 1963, and divorced in 1967, but they remained best friends for life. She began working in manufacturing, which was one of her many passions. She was very creative, writing and composing commercials jingles for businesses, along with hundreds of songs. She loved every genre. She was a freehand artist and loved painting, and drawing. Not only did Rita enjoy classic movies, she was a huge Packers and KC Chiefs fan! She really enjoyed playing bingo with family!
Some of the many special qualities we love and remember about Rita are her kindness, generosity, humor, and quirkiness. She loved her family with her whole heart.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Helena (William) Hess and Heidi Veit; grandchildren, Jacob Hess, Libby (Sal)Marino, Rebecca (Colton Kenworthy) Hess, and Lila Borkhart; great grandchildren, Emmerson and Tatym Marino; sisters, Helen(Ron) Corbin, Esther(Darwin Sheldon) Dooley, and Dorthy (Terrence) Oostendorp; brother, William Whipka Jr; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Karen Kay Whipka, her true love, Frank Veit, and special friend, Marion McKim.
