In light of the ongoing pandemic a celebration of life ceremony will be scheduled at a later date. Online tributes and condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Stanley Parker Roberts Jr. was born on April 8, 1931, in Moline, IL, to parents Stanley Parker Roberts Sr. and Rogene Roberts (Kippel). He graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1949, and from St. Ambrose University in 1953, with a degree in Art under the tutelage of his mentor, Father Edward Catich. Immediately after graduation Stanley entered the United States Armed Forces. While stationed in Oberursel, Germany, he met his wife, Walpurga “Walli” (Bartel), and became a father to his beloved daughter, Roswitha “Rosie” (Schueller). He learned to speak German and developed what would become a lifelong appreciation for both German culture and beer. Upon return to Davenport in 1956,
Stanley began a career in the Art Department at the Rock Island Arsenal, which he enjoyed immensely until his retirement in 1986. His post retirement activities included reading, travel, water-color painting, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, long walks (many around Vander Veer Park - a daily routine that extended well into his 89th year), frequenting local restaurants, spending time with his wife and daughter and helping to raise his grandchildren, Emily (Curt LaValle) and Matthew (Schueller). Stanley was known by those close to him as an intellectual and an optimist who took his greatest pleasures from simple joys. He was adored by his family who will remember him for his easy-going nature and dedication to his loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren (Olive & Tony LaValle).
