Terry Wayne Jackson, lovingly known as TJ, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, at the age of 58, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and love and is now at rest.
Terry was born on October 8, 1966, in Rock Island, Illinois. He lived a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering devotion to those he cared for most. He built his career in construction and house rehabilitation, known for his skilled hands and even bigger heart.
To know Terry was to know joy. He loved deeply, laughed often, and never met a stranger. He always had a story to tell, found peace in music, enjoyed long walks, and had an extraordinary gift for turning even life’s hardest days into moments of joy. If something was broken, Terry could fix it. If someone was sad, he would make them laugh. His bright, unforgettable smile and warm presence made every room feel like home.
Above all, Terry was a good man. He was a proud and loving son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His love was steady, his presence comforting, and his sense of humor could brighten even the darkest day. He loved to talk and if you spent time with him, you likely found yourself doing more listening than speaking. But that was part of his charm, and it was one of the many reasons we all loved him.
Terry is survived by his beloved mother, Sadie Wilson-Jackson, and his devoted life partner, Tonya Terry. He leaves behind three daughters whom he loved with all his heart: Shannon Barstow (Seth), Terri Clark, and Shawanda Clark, all of Joplin, Missouri. His love extended to seven wonderful children: Shawn Fabre, Chamirra Mason (Terrence), Devin Fabre, Avie Cooper, Shannon Johnson, and Michael Porter, all of Davenport, Iowa; and Tanya Fabre of Wisconsin.
He also helped raise a special young man he called his own, Terry “Lil’ Terry” of Davenport, Iowa, and shared a lifelong bond with his dear cousin, Martha Wilson.
Terry was a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His spirit and legacy will live on through each of them.
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings: Arnita Hall (Brett), Johnnie Owen (Keith), Tia Jackson, Temeka Jackson, John Jackson (Jessie), Willie Jackson (Linda), David Jackson, Andrew Jackson (Geri), Jeff Jackson, Michael Jackson (Renita), Demarcus Jackson, and Letitia Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father, John Arthur Jackson Sr.; siblings Barbara Hubbert, Rosie Smith, and Tyrone Jackson; and his cousin, Lucas Hill. We take comfort in knowing they welcomed him home with love and peace.
Terry’s legacy is one of unconditional love, strength, and lighthearted joy. He leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, each of whom was touched by his wisdom, humor, and heart.
A Celebration of Life will be announced later date.
