He was born in Peoria and was a graduate of Bradley University. He was employed in advertising prior to his retirement. His hobbies included reading and books. He was a cat admirer.
Survivors include a sister, Lucy McCrea, two nephews; two nieces and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucile Austin and two brothers.
