Velma Mulder of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away on March 30 at the Fountains Senior Living. A celebration of life will be held a later time. Please consider a memorial to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa.
Velma was born in Walton, Nebraska in October 1925. While working at the Nebraska Cornhusker Hotel and Restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska; Velma meet her dashing and boisterous husband of 61 years husband Bill. In 1950 they were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walton, Nebraska. From there they followed Bill’s career through several states and had four children along the way. Settling in Iowa, they set up and cultivated a community of great friends, raised their children, eventually enjoying retirement and grandchildren.
Velma was a smart cookie, graduated from high school at 16. She provided for her family with a dizzying list of skills. Her care and kindness showed through the clothes she made, food she cooked, parties she threw, vacations she planned and loving home she provided. She was great at making you feel special, always including a guest's favorite dish with dinner or highlighting a child on their birthday with a custom cake. Her goal in life seemed to be making others happy. She was quiet, yet firm and never said anything bad about anyone else. It was impossible to not love Velma.
Lutheran Church was very important to Velma and she attended every Sunday she could. Both Velma and Bill spent a lot of time and devotion at the Davenport Lutheran Home. Church was important throughout their lives.
Velma was a wonderful wife, sister, mother and grandmother, great grandmother, loved by everyone. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Roush (Jay) of Bettendorf; Jody (Bob) of Denver; Bill Jr. (Amy) St Louis; her son-in Law Lee of Los Alamos; grandchildren Alexandra, Joanne, Emily (Seth), Tristan, Nate (Leslie); and great grandchildren, Cole, Stella and Genevieve; and brother Dale (Helen). She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, parents Carl and Addie, brothers George, Everett, and Ivan, sister Myrna, infant sister Gladys and Daughter Kathy.
