

Velma Katherine (Rhodes) Rose, 86, of Eldridge, IA, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020. A private family service will be held. She will be laid to rest in Pinehill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous. Online condolences may be made at www.therungemortuary.com.
Velma was born October 4, 1933, a daughter of Freeman A. and Beulah May (Johnson) Rhodes, in Pearl, IL. She attended school in Peoria, IL, graduating class of “52” from Woodruff High. Velma worked for Caterpillar Inc. for four years. She married Arthur L. Rose, January 8, 1955, in Peoria. He died on June 6, 2008. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother. Arthur and Velma moved their family to Eldridge in 1977, for his company’s job. They have four children.
Arthur and Velma began Square Dancing in 1980 and Round Dancing in 1984. She became club administrator for Acey Ducey A2 Club. She was also a member of Merry Rounders Club. Velma continued to participate in dancing after Arthur passed away, and achieved over 36 years in square dancing and round dancing. She enjoyed drawing and oil painting, as well as sewing, golf and fishing.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth J. (Sue) Rose, and Linda K. (Larry Lewis) Rose, of Davenport, Roger L. Rose, of Louisville CO, Karen A. (Joe) Simmens, of MO; grandchildren, Dr. Abby K. Rose and Nicole F. Rose, of Davenport, Jacob A. (Elise) Simmens, of MN and Rose M. Simmens, of IA; brother, C.G. (Sue) Rhodes; nephews Andy Rhodes and Randy Rhodes of Chillicothe, IL.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur, and brothers, Leslie Rhodes and Jesse Rhodes.
