Velma Eveleth Seitz – dedicated wife, mother, Baba, and friend of many – passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 7, 2023. A private family service will be held and she will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.
Velma was born in Davenport, IA on May 16, 1927, to Frances Black Eveleth & Wayne Leroy Eveleth. Velma attended Davenport High School and graduated in 1945. Velma was the beloved wife of the late Allen V. Seitz; married September 9, 1945. They shared 54 blissful years of marriage until Allen’s death in 1999. Velma remained an exceedingly proud widow to Allen throughout her life. Together, they had three children, Susan Gates, Cindy Wetzel (Bruce Wetzel) and A. Jeffrey Seitz (Susie Seitz). Since 1953, Velma and Allen were instrumental in Advance Homes Inc. She was a key supporter to Allen as he followed the pursuit of his career. Having a natural gift for art and creativity, Velma enjoyed sketching designs of custom homes.
Anyone who knew Velma knows that she was incredibly proud of her family. The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She had a passion for painting, playing bridge, golfing, sewing, entertaining (if the gathering was catered) and traveling the world. You could always find her on the dance floor or creating her own dance party at any event. Her upbeat spirit was infectious to everyone around her, and she will be missed dearly.
Velma was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church and involved in many social and community organizations. Velma was an active member of Crow Valley Golf Club in Davenport, IA. In the winter, she enjoyed spending time at Bear’s Paw Country Club in Naples, FL.
Baba’s memory lives on with her grandchildren; Wendy Bolling, Nathan Wetzel, Gretchen Smith (Randy Smith), Andrew Seitz (Carson Bodnarek), Adam Seitz (Danielle Seitz) and Lindsey Burke (Alec Burke). She was also a great grandmother of seven; Alex Bolling, Max Smith, Ben Smith, Meier Smith, Laken Seitz, Rowan Burke and Briar Seitz.
Velma is preceded in death by the love of her life, Allen V. Seitz; her daughter, Cindy D. Wetzel; and her grandson, Nicholas S. Gates.
