Vincent J. Thiede

Funeral services for Vincent J. Thiede, 82, of Bettendorf will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Davenport. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary with a Masonic Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral services. Mr. Thiede passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.Vincent John Thiede was born in rural Preston, IA on February 10, 1929, the son of John and Elsie (Schlemma) Thiede. He served as a Private in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On February 26, 1956, he married Evelyn May Nelson in Delmar, IA. Mr. Thiede worked as a heavy equipment operator for various construction companies in the Quad City out of the Midwest Operating Engineers Union Local #150 in Rock Island, IL, retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the Bellevue Masonic Lodge #50, a charter member of the Preston Volunteer Fire Department, and, the Preston, IA American Legion. Vincent had a love of antique cars, and enjoyed doing small engine repair and being an all around handyman.He is survived by his Wife: Evelyn of Bettendorf; four Sons: Dean Thiede of Clinton, IA, Richard Thiede of DeWitt, IA, Dan (Teresa) Thiede of Camanche, IA, and John (Deanne) Thiede of Solon, IA; a Sister: Berdea Hugunin of Camanche, IA; seven Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise, and a brother, Carrol.Memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, or the Iowa Masonic Village.
