Wayne A. Berry

Wayne A. Berry, 91, of Rock Island, IL , passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 11:30 AM at the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Memorials can be made to the family who will give them to the Wounded Warrior Project and Quad City Honor Flight. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.Wayne was born November 22, 1921 in Vinton, IA; the son of Harley and Faye (Kleineck) Berry. He lived most of his life in Cedar Rapids, IA and then moved to Davenport where he was employed with American Optical until the onset of WWII at which time he proudly served in the Navy enlisting April 23, 1942 after his brother, H. Leo Berry was declared missing in action in the Philippines. He was so proud of his three brothers, two of which served in the Navy and one in the Merchant Marines. After the war he worked at E.H. Daniel Optical Co, until his retirement in 1983. He was united in marriage to Iona Wainscott on April 27, 1944 in Davenport; she preceded him in death in July 1999. He is survived by his children, Karen (Tim) McMillan and Lana (Steve) Johannes; seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale (Vivian) Berry, Garden Grove, CA and Dennis Berry, Calif. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Bryant and brother, H. Leo Berry.
