Bill Ley was born on September 12, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to Ernst and Helene Ley. Bill fondly remembered playing handball at elementary school in Queens, NY. After his father's death in 1945 Bill and his mother moved to Davenport, Iowa to be with family. Bill resided in Davenport until he graduated from Davenport High in 1957. Following high school he enlisted in the National Guard Reserves and was stationed in Davenport.
On May 30, 1958, Bill married Therese Younger who were blessed with three children. They divorced in 1982 but remained friendly. He married Sharon Tosch on October 21, 1983 in Davenport. Bill had a 43 year career at Alcoa and retired in 2002 as a Production Control Supervisor.
Bill was passionate about golf and enjoyed bi-weekly Alcoa Golf League with his life long golf friends through May 2019. If there was a tee-time available Bill was ready to play.
Bill enjoyed traveling to Disney World twice a year and never tired of the magic of Disney in particular visiting the Biergarten Restaurant at Epcot in fond memory of his German heritage.
He was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan and a season ticket holder for many years and he also loved the Chicago Bears. But above all Bill was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife Sharon; children, Debbie (Mike) Miller, Linda (John) Reimann and David (Bridget) Ley; grandchildren, Nick (Kayla) Ley, Chloe and Luke Miller and Drew Ley; great grand-daughter, Stella Ley and stepdaughter, Susan (Ed) Boon-Duda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Heinrich and stepson, Tim Boon.
