Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday morning, October 3, 2025. Cliff was receiving excellent care at Brookdale Senior Living in Moses Lake, WA, and held onto his faith in his final days.
He was born in Norman, OK, on October 21, 1936, to Clifford Mooney Sr. and Buenta Hendricks. In the summer of 1937, Cliff moved with his parents to California. They later relocated to Oregon in the fall of 1943, before returning to California in 1944.
Cliff attended Burbank High School, where he met the love of his life, Bonnie Mancinelli. After graduating in 1954, he enlisted in the Navy Seabees. Upon completing two years of active duty, he continued serving in the Navy Reserves until 1962.
In 1960, Cliff and Bonnie moved from Southern California to Reno, NV, where they raised their family (Terry, Janie, Jim, Donna, and Don) while owning and operating Mooney’s Auto Service.
While raising his family, Cliff was deeply committed to giving back to his community through volunteer service. Over the years, he served in many roles, including as a member of Search and Rescue, the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the American Legion Post 105, and the Elks Club. He also served as an EMT, volunteered as a firefighter, and eventually became Fire Chief, a role he took great pride in.
In 1978, Cliff and his family moved to Odessa, WA, where he began farming and later became the shop manager at Grange Supply of Odessa. He eventually accepted a position as the Transportation Supervisor for the St. Maries School District of Idaho, a role he held with dedication until his retirement at age 75.
Cliff and Bonnie enjoyed their retirement years in Idaho before returning to Odessa, WA, in 2020 to be closer to family. They shared 66 wonderful years of marriage before Bonnie passed away in 2022. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Don and Mike, as well as his daughter Terry and son-in-law Mike Connolly. He is survived by his loving sister, Cheryl Grant, and his children Janie (Dave) Steward, Jim (Lisa) Mooney, Donna Mooney, and Don (Leona) Mooney. He was incredibly proud to be a grandpa to Shaun (April) Steward, Josh (Katie) Steward, Jill (Dave) Connolly, Katie (Matt) Douglas, Matt (Leah) Messmer Mooney, and Eric (Lydia) Mooney. He also took great joy in his great-grandchildren: Dakota, Jack, Sadie, Angela, Hartlee, Michael, Gracie, and Connor.
A graveside service with full military honors will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, at Odessa Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Travis Powers. A luncheon hosted by the Catholic Altar Society, will follow at the Old Town Hall.
