Jerry Dale Schafer

Lifetime resident of Odessa, WA. He passed away June 6, 2025. Jerry was born on September 5, 1938 in Odessa, WA to Henry (HB) and Mollie Schafer. He grew up and attended school in Odessa, graduating high school in 1956. Jerry served the US Army after high school. Jerry and Ellen Janke married on May 29, 1965 in Odessa, WA where they made their home and raised their two children Marlon and Dana. Over the years Jerry farmed, owned Midway Implement, Odessa Pump and Irrigation, and Das Kraut Haus; and then usually had some project going on. His favorite pastime was Schafer Pond. He dearly loved to see little kids at the pond for their first fishing trip. Jerry was a member of the Heritage Church, Odessa American Legion, Odessa Masonic Lodge F&AM and the Shrine. Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 yrs Ellen at the home, two children Marlon (Melissa) Schafer and Dana Schafer along with three grandchildren Andrew, Sam and Molly and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings Helen (Fred) Stehr, Dorothy (Hugo) Zagelow, brother Laverne Schafer and an infant sister Ruth. A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Heritage Church, Odessa, WA with Pastor Jerry Malone, officiating. Inurnment was held at the Odessa Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 W. 5th Ave., Spokane, WA 99204.
