February 23, 1937 – October 30, 2025
Joyce Lee Nonnemacher was born on February 23, 1937, in Reardan, Washington, to Casper (Casey) and Elva Heldstab. She was raised on the Heldstab family farm, which her family established in 1882, near Gravelle. She graduated from Reardan High School in 1955.
After attending Kinman Business University, Joyce married the love of her life, Frank E. Nonnemacher, on April 6, 1956, in Spokane, WA. Together they built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. Joyce worked for several local businesses before she and Frank purchased and operated Nonnemacher Insurance (Grange) in Reardan, all while farming full time.
In 1972, Joyce returned to the Heldstab family farm, where she spent the rest of her life surrounded by the land and community she loved. The Reardan community meant so much to her, it was where she raised her family, built lifelong friendships, and gave back in countless ways. A dedicated community member, Joyce worked at the local election office during every election, a role she took great pride in. She was also deeply involved with the Reardan Presbyterian Church, served as a 4-H leader, and was active in the Spring Creek Grange and several quilting clubs.
Joyce’s cookie jar was never empty, her garden was always blooming, and she never missed a chance to help at the Lincoln County Hospital Foundation’s annual luncheon. She was known for her kindness, humor, and her signature question to friends and neighbors: “Are you behaving yourself?”
Joyce and Frank loved traveling, taking cruises, spending time at their place at Waits Lake and then Seven Bays, and visiting casinos across the western U.S. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She delighted in playing trucks, making mud pies, baking cookies, and creating memories with them.
A farmer’s daughter through and through, Joyce faced cancer with remarkable strength and grace. She often told her doctors she was “tough because I’m a farmer’s daughter” and, fittingly, she waited until harvest and seeding were finished before her passing.
Joyce is survived by her three children, Christie Nonnemacher (Dave), Julie (Mike) Langenheim, and Casey (Trea) Nonnemacher; seven grandchildren—Michael (Mallory), Mitchell (Madison), Triston, Trace, Tate, Hailey, and RJ (Rylan Joyce); and four great-grandchildren—Reagan, Mavrik, Ada, and Easton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank, and her parents, Casey and Elva Heldstab.
Private interment will be at the Reardan Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Reardan Presbyterian Church on November 7, 2025 at 1 P.M.
Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Hospital Foundation, Reardan Presbyterian Church, or Reardan Fire and Rescue.
Strate Funeral Home, Davenport, WA, is caring for the family.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the entire Reardan and Davenport communities she loved so dearly.
