OBITUARY

Kevin Dale Allen

20 February, 196516 August, 2021

On August 16, 2021, Kevin Dale Allen entered his eternal joy and went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Born on February 20, 1965 to Rollie Berman Allen and Dora Jean (Hohman) Allen of Laurel, IN, Kevin was born with a determined and adventurous heart. At an early age he committed with tenacity and vigor to whatever he set his hands to doing. These traits proved to serve Kevin well in his life. On August 30, 1986 Kevin married Penny Lynn (Howard) Allen, the love of his life. They would go on to have many storied adventures. The greatest adventure being the birth and raising of their three kids: Natalie-his precious, Jordan-his pride, and Aubrey-his joy. “These four,” Kevin said on many occasions, “are my greatest treasures.” Kevin was a man of many interests, foremost being providing food, shelter, fire, and water for his family. He did this for twenty years as a member of the U.S. Air Force in the brotherhood of survival as a Master SERE Instructor. Working tirelessly to educate and equip military personnel at risk of capture he fulfilled what he saw as his life’s purpose. Kevin was one of the fortunate ones in that his trail was discovered in childhood, after personally hearing a Vietnam POW’s story of capture and repatriation. Finding the lost, teaching, and giving honor would go on to be a theme throughout Kevin’s life. One of the most effective ways Kevin found to accomplish this was through mentorship at work and as the scout master of the local boy scout troop. Kevin saw the mentorship of young men as an investment not only in those men, but in the community, and nation at large. After his retirement from the Air Force, Kevin continued to serve those at risk of capture as the Senior Lead Program Manager of the joint service training program as part of the Joint Personnel Recovery Agency. When not at work in his office Kevin loved being outside in “God’s country.” Hiking, swimming, rucking, and shooting were among his favorite sports. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Although gone much too soon, Kevin’s legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and the lives of those who knew him. Truly, Kevin lived to fill each minute with 60 seconds’ worth of distance run, to finish the course, and keep the faith. Kevin is preceded in death by his father, Rollie Allen (Brookville, IN) and his granddaughter Alynnah Jo Ele Craft (Bailey, NC). He is survived by his wife, Penny Allen (Davenport, WA); his children, Natalie (Allen) and Tyler Craft (Bailey, NC), Jordan and Kelsey Allen (Spokane, WA), and Aubrey Allen (Aberdeen, NC); his mother, Dora Jean Allen (Odessa, TX); his sister Karen (Allen) and Randy Unruh (Odessa, TX); seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Terrence and I are saddened by the loss of our SERE brother. Kevin had a good heart and was a loyal member of our profession! We found him to be ever cheerful and willing to turn a hand at whatever the project was a JPRA. We know that many thousands of students are better prepared to face mission challenges because of Kevin‘s dedication. We also know that the many people Kevin worked with are better persons for having met this kind and generous man. Kevin, rest in peace at the eternal fire circle!

Kevin has always been a second dad to me. He’s always shown me his love for Jesus. I remember my first time at AWANA, and being nervous that I wouldn’t know anything. He quickly changed that, and encouraged me to do Bible drills with Natalie. I remember a camping trip in the woods with youth group, and dad leading some hikes and teaching us about nature. I can never be thankful enough for Kevin taking me into his family, and loving me like a daughter. I am so thankful God put me into your life when I was just a little girl of 5. All of my love to Penny, Natalie, Tyler, Jordan, Kelsey, Aubrey, and all the kids. - Brittany

I can’t say I was close to ‘Chunk’ but I can say I loved having him as one of my troops when he first started working in RT. I’ve been gone a long time but he is one who stays in my mind as one of my favorites. Alway upbeat and positive, he was an exceptional man and his family and friends were fortunate and should be proud to have called him Dad, Husband, Son, Papaw…
