Hal, as he was known to many, was born in Barberton, Ohio on June 30, 1927 to the late James and Helena (Miller). Johnson. Hal attended Kent State University and Ohio University, receiving a degree in business. Hal also proudly served his country in Korea as a Journalistic Correspondent in the United States Army.
After relocating to Dayton, he was employed and retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Contract Negotiator. Hal enjoyed performing as an amateur magician and was a member of the Dayton Magic Club, Ring 5, for over 30 years. In his younger days, he enjoyed performing magic for his own children's and even his grandchildren's birthday parties. Hal was a longtime member of Aley United Methodist Church and attended well into his 80's.
He is survived by his daughter Amy (Marcus) Medrano, daughter Lori (David) Rado, and son Steven (Heather) Johnson. "Grandpa J", as he was know to his grandchildren, is also survived by his granddaughters Kayleigh, Sara, and Meghan, grandsons Alex and Adam, and great-grandson, Jay. In addition to his parents, Hal was preceded in death by his wife Donelda "Donnie" Johnson and his sister Marian Roberts.
A visitation will be held from 11:00AM-1:00PM on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3907 Dayton-Xenia Rd at Grange Hall Rd, with funeral services immediately following at 1:00PM. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aley United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
