David Lee Nies, 79, of Beavercreek passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 15, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Nies and Hazel B. Bunger and sister Carol E. Pedigo (Ron). He is survived by his loving wife Becky F. Nies; two sons Scott A. Nies (Debbie) and Michael L. Nies; brothers Robert A. Nies (Mary) and Ronald G. Nies (Peggy); grandchildren Joshua, Caitlin, Brahm, and great-grandchildren Morgen, Patrick, Abigail, Monroe, Jasper, and Alicia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
David was a graduate of the University of Dayton having obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. His engineering career spanned 33 years with over 20 years of that spent employed by Delphi, where he would eventually be recognized with numerous awards and patents. David was also a devoted member of the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren for more than 40 years and supported the church in many ways including playing softball, as a board member and in various other volunteer roles. Other community volunteer work included as an assistant counselor at Woodland Altars Campground in Peebles, OH as well as in a variety of roles for Kettering Medical Center and the Beavercreek Senior Center. David’s love of music led to his participation in many singing ventures to include the men’s choir at church, Kettering Senior Chorus, and multiple barbershop choruses out of Xenia. David had a light-hearted personality and was known as quite the pun aficionado who will forever be remembered as a good husband, father, and grandfather who took special care of his family.
Family will receive visitors on Saturday, December 4th from 11AM-1PM at the Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd for a mask-optional, socially-distanced public visitation. Private memorial service to follow at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren Disaster Relief program at 2659 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH., 45434 and the Alzheimer’s Association.
