

Roberts, Grace (Spurlock), age 92, a resident of Beavercreek for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24. 2019, at the Oakwood Village in Springfield, Ohio. She was born in Jackson, KY on February 9, 1927, the daughter of Lester and Ella (Morris) Suprlock, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Orvel Roberts, on March 17, 2000; her sister, Leona Siebel and two brothers, Andy Spurlock and Willard “Red” Spurlock. Grace is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Evelyn (Doolin) Roberts; three grandchildren, Bryan Roberts, Eric and wife Emily Roberts, Kristy and husband, Justin Truitt; three great-grandchildren, August Roberts and Henry and Alice Truitt. She is also survived by her Aunt Frida Thompson, close friend, Lois Doolin, and nieces and nephews.
Grace was a devout and faithful woman of God. She was a longtime member of First Dayton Freewill Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She and her late husband, Orvel, were pioneers for the church sponsored camp and spent countless hours building shelters, cooking meals and hosting men, women and youth during the summer. Grace was an immensely talented seamstress and took great delight in quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She was also an avid gardener, taking great pride in tending to her tomatoes, half runner beans, cucumbers, beets, and potatoes. Her claim to fame was her canned beans. Her expertly tended flower gardens were a blessing to all that had the pleasure of fellowshipping in her backyard.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road with Pastor Wally Mason officiating. Interment will follow the service in David’s Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Family and friends are welcome to share a meal in memory of Grace at MCL Restaurant and Bakery following the interment, 4485 Far Hills Ave, Kettering, OH 45429.
