Hal V. Long, age 89 of Riverside, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at his home. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria and son Joel Long, both in 1968. His second wife, Marjorie Long also preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by four children: Deborah and husband Richard Balonier, Kathy Bouchard, Gloria and husband Ron Beavers, Brian Long and wife Shannon and his “adopted” daughter, Pam Liter. He is survived by two brothers: Lonnie and wife Marjorie Long and Harold and wife Cathy Gilbert, as well as two sisters: Judy Griffin and Linda Humphrey and husband Richard, as well as a sister-in-law, Jean Desch, 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Hal was a US Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. He was employed by Monsanto and was part of the Runnymeade Project under the Manhattan Project. He was a cold war patriot. He worked for many years at Standard Register and eventually became the Electrician Manager at Bee Electric. His love of nature led him to feed all manner of animals at his backyard feeders and he was also an avid vegetable gardener as well as a member of the Dayton Gym Club. Our dad is in heaven now and finally able to feel joy. He passed away peacefully at 5:30 this morning with the sun rising and birds fluttering around his bird feeder. We know our Lord is holding him close and he is finally with the love of his life, our mom Gloria and his little Joel. He so deserves to be free of his sadness. Thank you God, for this gift of new life. Friends may call at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 10AM-12PM. A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon. Interment in Calvary Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals For Children Burns Center at (855) 401-4897.
