Henry was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from 1966 to 1969. His military career took him to many parts of the world and state side, but none as memorable as his service in Vietnam. The Vietnam experience remained with him throughout his entire life. After he left the Army, his ongoing commitment to the military was unwavering and service and sacrifice were at his core. Henry was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 957.
After returning from the service, Henry went to work for DAP, where he retired after 25 years. He then joined LEXIS-NEXIS for 10 years before fully retiring.
Henry loved spending time with family, especially during the many vacations to Myrtle Beach and Tennessee where he enjoyed the beach and playing golf. He also enjoyed attending all the sporting events with all the grandkids whether baseball, karate or anything in between. Henry also loved to cook, especially on the grill and prepare meals. He spent many hours in the yard making sure it was also in pristine condition. In the summertime, he had rose bushes surrounding the property and tomato plants as high as your head. Over the last few years he enjoyed working on puzzles, reading and watching John Wayne movies.
Henry faced many medical challenges throughout his life and he “NEVER GAVE UP”. Henry was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and was thankful for overcoming that diagnosis the same year. In 2018, he reached the cancer free milestone to become a cancer survivor. He had been in remission for over five years before facing another medical challenge during the last weeks of life. He fought a long hard battle and now he can rest.
Henry was a man of integrity, strength and commitment. He will be remembered as a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather (grandpa), and great grandfather (pops).
Henry will forever be in all our hearts as he left an impression on all who knew him. We should always remember Henry’s legacy. “NEVER GIVE UP.”
A visitation will be held on February 2, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at Tobias Funeral Home, located at 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45429.
