Hilda Jean (Osmanski) Shirley was born in Oceanside, California on July 30, 1977, and the world has never been the same. She passed away Monday, January 10, 2022 at the age of 44 after a fierce and unforgiving battle against cancer, and the world will never be the same.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Justin, beloved sons Derrick and Gavin, her mother and stepfather Hilda and Alan Pummill, her brother and sister-in-law Bill and Izumi Osmanski, her parents-in-law Paul and Bev Shirley, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, students, and friends. Hilda was preceded in death by her father, Tom Osmanski.
Hilda was a beloved wife and mother, a cherished friend, and a devoted teacher. She loved supporting the performing arts, watching students discover a joy in reading, and making others laugh until they cried. The impact she has had on those in her life cannot ever be measured; the enthusiasm, compassion, and wisdom she poured out daily will have lasting effects. Hilda’s bravery and humor were only outweighed by her love.
To honor Hilda’s life and legacy, she very firmly requested no flowers, please. Instead, please consider helping two causes near and dear to her heart: Muse Machine and Beavercreek students.
Local nonprofit Muse Machine’s Advanced Teacher Training Seminar (ATTS) honors and challenges teachers by providing fully-funded, merit-based scholarships for its annual, arts-immersive six days in New York City. You may support Hilda’s passion for ATTS by donating here: https://musemachine.com/educatorexcellence/ or by sending a check in her honor to Muse Machine, 126 N. Main St., Ste. 310, Dayton, OH, 45402.
Hilda also believed strongly in encouraging Beavercreek students to achieve their dreams. The Hilda Jean Shirley Memorial Scholarship has been established to award $1,000 annually to a graduating BHS senior who attended Coy Middle School and is pursuing a degree in the performing arts. To donate to this scholarship fund, you can mail a check made payable to Beavercreek City Schools with the memo “Hilda Jean Shirley Memorial Scholarship” to Jacob Coy Middle School, 1786 Dayton-Xenia Road, Xenia OH 45385, Attn. Hilda Shirley Scholarship. Credit card contributions can be made by calling 937-429-7577 to speak with the financial secretary.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at 10:30AM at St Luke Church in Beavercreek - 1440 N Fairfield Rd.
