

Howard was born December 21, 1933 in Portsmouth Ohio to the late Charles and Mildred Culbertson. He was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn McFarland(Mac) and brother Charles Raymond Culbertson.
Howard is survived by his wife of 68 years Helen and children: Jeffery A. Culbertson (Sherrie) and Gary E. Culbertson (Karen), grandchildren: Brenton, Matthew, Kristen and Jacob; sisters-in-law Shirley Ramsey, Ruth Culbertson, Grace Sininger, and Dorthy Sininger. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews located in Ohio and Colorado.
Howard served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as an electronics technician specializing in radar repair, ultimately attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the USAF, Howard continued his contribution to national defense through his 36 year career at the Defense Electronics Supply Center DESC receiving the distinguished career award upon his retirement.
Howard was known to say that retirement was the best job he ever had. He took great pleasure in his family especially his children and grand children’s activities. With his newfound free time, Howard enjoyed traveling to both foreign and domestic destinations with his loving wife Helen, especially enjoying just about every cruise available. He was also very active in sports such as senior Olympics volleyball and softball, as well as his golf and bowling leagues.
Howard was always available when family or friends needed a helping hand or his expertise with repairing any mechanical, electrical, electronic, home or automobile system. He was a wealth of knowledge and generous with his time. His lively sense of humor will be missed as he enjoyed listening to or telling a new joke.
Howard was a loving family man who continued to set the example for others to follow. Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2023 in the Community Mausoleum at David’s Cemetery, 4600 Mad River road, Dayton OH 45429. We will be receiving family and friends at 10:00 with service starting at 11:00.
