KINDERDINE, Jack Douglas, age 80, of Centerville, reunited with his parents and grandchildren in Heaven on the evening of Sunday, July 14, 2019. Born February 9, 1939, he was the proud son of James and Virginia (Shank) Kinderdine. He grew up in Miamisburg, where he developed a passion for sports, including track and field, basketball, and football. His love for football followed him to Dartmouth College, where he was an All-American honorable mention. He played quarterback.
After college, he began working at Delco Moraine, where he met the love of his life, Sue Ellinger. They were engaged in the Spring of 1964 and married August 29 that year. The couple went on to have four children and settle down in Miamisburg, and then Centerville, where they’ve lived ever since.
Jack was an outdoorsman and loved spending time in the open air with his family. An avid fisherman, he spent many summers in Canada catching walleye with his friends, and later, his grandchildren. When he wasn’t traveling, he was outside grooming his yard and giving tractor rides, or inside making his world-famous pancakes. He loved carpentry, and made stepping stools, toy chests, and Adirondack chairs for his grandkids over the years.
In his later years, Parkinson’s disease made the hobbies he loved more difficult to enjoy. It did not, however, affect the love he had for his family or his ability to light up a room with his infectious laugh. He never missed an opportunity to crack a joke or give a hug, and that’s how he’ll be remembered most.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Virginia, as well as two grandchildren, Nathan and Amari. He is survived by his wife, Sue, brother Jim (JoAnn) Kinderdine, sons Jim (Christine) Kinderdine, Dave Kinderdine (Chris Kowalik), Scott (Tonya) Kinderdine, Todd (Tracy) Kinderdine, grandchildren Kelli, Lindsey, Jimmy, D. Grant, Todd, Blake, Jeffrey, Noah, Sarah, Keaton, Maddox, Jacob, Jessica, great-granddaughter Elowyn, and best friend of more than 70 years, David “Dunk” Dunkelberger.
The family would like to give special thanks to Amy, Sharon, and Dr. Cass, of Hospice of Dayton; the Dayton VA Medical Center; and his longtime aide Ty.
Family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 8:00PM Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Tobias Funeral Home – Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, OH 45429. Funeral service will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Fairhaven Church, 637 E. Whipp Road, Centerville, OH 45459.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jack’s memory to Hospice of Dayton, Fairhaven Church, and/or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
