He was born January 8, 1933 at Van Lear, Kentucky to the late James and Emily Waddell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters Jeanette Fournier and Karen Waddell; a sister, Jean Sparks, and brothers Charles Waddell and Roger Waddell. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Katherine Waddell, of Washington Township, son John Waddell of Beavercreek and two grandchildren, Katie Gradassi of Geneva Switzerland and Matthew Fournier of Maryland.
Wes majored in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He received a commission as 2nd Lt. in the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Major. His military assignments took him and the family to various interesting places in the U. S. as well as to Iceland and the Philippines. He was assigned to an Atlas D Missile crew during the 1960’s, so we are losing another officer and gentleman from the cold war. After retiring from the Air Force he taught electronics at ITT Technical Institute, retiring after 15 years.
Wes was a member of Fairhaven Church and he loved the Lord. He enjoyed golf, reading and working puzzles of various kinds. He also liked to build model airplanes.
Funeral services will be held 1:00PM February 9, 2019 at Fairhaven Church’s Schwalm Chapel in Kettering, with Pastor David Smith officiating. Visitation will precede services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Miami Valley, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
