POWELL, Joyce Yvonne (Parker), age 87 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2016 surrounded by family. She was born September 7, 1929 in Port Huron, Michigan to the late Leonard and Margaret (Nevins) Parker. She was the oldest of eight children and adored and remained close to her siblings throughout her life. She felt blessed to be in such a large, loving family and we are blessed that she passed her love of family and importance of family on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, the love of her life, John "Jack" Powell. In 1953 she flew to San Francisco with an engagement ring, a wedding dress and a heart full of hope and love to marry Jack. Their love for each other never wavered. In 1957 with two children in tow (Becky and Jacquie) and one on the way they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and a few years later to Dayton, Ohio where she lived out her life. They worked together to provide a wonderful home life for their family. Joyce was a very talented woman in many ways. She was a patient, kind and generous person who loved her friends, family and faith. She was an active member of the Ohio Child Conservation League for over 50 years and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for 57 years, where she also taught Sunday school in the 1960’s. She enjoyed her close friends over the years and loved and looked forward to playing cards and going to lunch. Joyce loved her home state of Michigan and particularly loved spending time in the north woods of Michigan where her parents maintained a home during their lifetime that was always full of family, adults, kids and animals and loads of laughs and fun times. She spent many happy hours with her daughters, sons in law and grandchildren visiting their homes in Northern Michigan and the coast of Maine. She and her family travelled the world, enjoying happy times together and creating memories to last a lifetime. Joyce adored her family and friends. Although our hearts break for our loss we celebrate her life and legacy of love and compassion for others. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband John "Jack" Powell, her mother, father and four brothers; Leonard Jr. "Sonny", twin bothers Robert and James, and Thomas. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Don) Otto, Beavercreek, OH, Jacquelyn Powell, Dayton, OH, and Patricia (Jerry) Fletcher, Cincinnati, OH, and son-in-law, Joe Horn, Dayton, OH.
