On Sunday, July 23, 2023, Kathleen (Kathy) Sturgeon, loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother passed away at the age of 75 at Mercy Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, OH after a brief stay. Kathy was born on July 1, 1948 in Cincinnati, OH to Walter and Katherine (McSherry) Dillman. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Katherine. She is survived by her husband Larry of Amelia, OH, their children, Greg (Kristine) Sturgeon and Kari (Mike) Eggleston, and 5 grandchildren, Madeline Sturgeon, Sophia Sturgeon, Seth Eggleston, Claire Sturgeon, and Kai Eggleston. She graduated in 1966 from Belmont High School. Attended Miami Jacobs where she met Larry and they married on Feb 3, 1968. They deployed quickly after for Larry’s 4 year enlistment in the United States Air Force in Japan and North Dakota. Afterwards returning to Ohio they raised their family in Vandalia and Kathy worked in Food Service at both St. Christopher and Vandalia-Butler City Schools until 1994. She has since worked for Larry’s business in Cincinnati, OH where they moved in 1999. Kathy’s true love was for her 5 grandchildren who she helped to raise into their adult lives. She was always there to cheer them on through sporting events, dance productions, band competitions, scouting achievements, and all of the endless activities the kids were involved in. One of her favorite memories was being able to share her love of traveling and of Walt Disney World with them. She was always taking one or more of them with them when they traveled to WDW. For her 70th birthday she was able to take all five of them to Disney as teenagers without their parents. This was her best birthday present ever. Her final adventure was on an Alaskan Cruise in June where she sailed past glaciers, observed whales and sea lions up close, as well as took an excursion on a UTV to Lake Mahoney in Ketchikan, AK. Friends and family may visit to pay their respects at the Tobias Funeral Home Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave Dayton, OH 45429 on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 2-5 pm. Following will be a casual gathering of family and friends with a meal to take place nearby. Further details and directions will be available at the visitation. A Catholic Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2300 S Smithville Rd, Dayton, OH 45420 on Monday, July 31st at 11am. She will have her cremains interred at Calvary Cemetery at a later time with immediate family. Kathy was adopted by Walter and Katherine after the loss of her sister in 1942 at birth. She and Larry were also unable to have children naturally and chose to adopt as well. She felt strongly about the importance of adoption being available to all deserving parents regardless of their financial means. In lieu of flowers (as there will not be an immediate burial), If you wish to donate in her honor please support the Dave Thomas Adoption Foundation https://www.davethomasfoundation.org/give/give-a-gift/
