

Shimmin, Kenneth D., age 86, passed away on Thursday July 30, 2015. He was born to George and Melvina Shimmin in Monmouth, IL on January 30, 1929. Ken grew up in Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1947 and the University of Illinois in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He served three and a half years in the United States Air Force. Was stationed at W.P.A.F.B. He returned to the base as a civilian and spent 35 years in the Materials Lab. Ken has been an active member of Oak Creek United Church of Christ (now Harmony Creek Church) serving on committees and the consistory. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister Beverly Shimmin and by a grandson, Dylan Shimmin. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Shimmin; daughter, Karen (Bill) Archer; son, Don (Cheryl) Shimmin; grandchildren, Kyle and Kari Shimmin and Nick and Ryan Archer. Ken enjoyed gardening in his younger years, working on his computer and listening to books since he was legally blind. He was a sought after Trivial Pursuit team member in family games. Visitation will be Saturday August 15th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Harmony Creek Church, 5280 Bigger Road. A memorial service will follow visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the benevolence fund at St. Leonard, 8100 Clyo Road; or to Harmony Creek Church.
